Complex combination: Elements of Islay CI14 from Oloroso Sherry Butts
From Laphroaig on the south coast to Bunnahabhain in the very north: For Elements of Islay, the "Elixir Distillers" select bottlings from all active and partly inactive distilleries on the whisky island.
The bottlers, who have gained an excellent reputation among Islay lovers with their Port Askaig brand, compose their delicious elementary particles from casks of different ages and sometimes from different distilleries.
The goal: to show the full range of island malt whiskys with their medicinal, peaty and maritime character.
In July 2022, a new small-batch bottling captures the essence of Islay.
Elements of Islay Cl14 combines the maritime-peaty character of a Caol Ila single malt with the fruit and spice of an Andalusian strong wine.
The bottling developed its fine complexity in an American Oak Hogshead and then in three Oloroso Sherry Butts.
The result?
Creamy, palatable notes of pureed raspberries, iodinated sea mist, dark chocolate and spicy smoke.
Nose: Coastal smoke overlaid with smoked mackerel and fruit chutney - pleasant savory flavors intertwine with caramel
Taste: Even sweeter and richer than on the nose - layers of dried fruit, raspberry puree and cherries, orange peel combine with light smoke and spices
Finish: balanced and persistent with dark chocolate, campfire embers and pomegranate seeds
