Benrinnes single malts are extremely rare.
It is a remote distillery located 210 meters above sea level.
The raw spirit is heavy, meaty and quite sulphurous, partly because of a complicated and unusual distillation process and partly because of the use of snail pans - horizontal condensing tubes passing through very cold water provide slow condensation.

The malt is therefore in great demand among blenders.

Worth knowing about the distillery
No fewer than 11 distilleries use water from Benrinnes.
The distillery was originally called The Lyne of Rutherie.
The current distillery is actually about a mile from the original distillery site.

Nose: Tangerine peel, dark chocolate and cold brew coffee, followed by some yeast and white wine aromas
Palate: Freshly sharpened pencils, roasted oak and spicy notes - especially cinnamon - becoming creamier with a little water, clear notes of lemon curd and barley sugar
Finish: Medium length on the finish, creamy and soft with tones of chalk, liquorice and vanilla, plus lemon candy and pear - above all spicy oak and ginger
