Summer in Denmark: Limited Stauning Rye from sweet wine casks

With a limited edition, the Danish distillery Stauning has succeeded in immortalizing this sensory snapshot in whisky.
For Stauning Rye - Sweet Wine Casks, the adventurous distillers from West Jutland built on their iconic Stauning Rye Whisky.
They treated their full-bodied flagship made of 49% barley and 51% rye malt to a finale of up to two years in sweet wine barrels after initial maturation in new, burned-out American white oak barrels.
Coming from Europe's sunny south, the Nordic whisky was housed in three different types of casks.
First-fill Marsala barrels filled with the Sicilian dessert wine were used, as were barrels in which noble sweet Gewürztraminer or the sweet white wine Ramandalo from Italy's northeast matured.
In March 2022, Stauning bottled such a fruity summer whisky with seductive aromas of sweet berries, citrus fruits and apples in combination with malt, caramel and cinnamon as well as some ginger.
