Talisker 44 years Forests of the Deep
The second whisky in this adventurous series is the Talisker 44 year old Forests of the Deep, which has matured for over four decades and received its finish in flamed casks.
Fueled by aged oak driftwood and sustainably harvested seaweed, this process is a true deep sea adventure and the perfect incarnation of Talisker's Made by the Sea motto.
An absolute rarity, limited to 1,997 bottles from ten specially refined barrels, in a beautiful bottle with an elaborately manufactured wooden box, which arouses the desires of collectors and represents an absolute luxury gift.
The unique and oldest Talisker bottling from the oldest distillery on the Isle of Skye arouses curiosity about the other Talisker bottlings.
Colour: deep, clear amber - excellent perlage
Nose: Soft overall, with a slight peppery tingle at the beginning - deep, intense and complex, the top note is reminiscent of wood, enveloped in fragrant smoke and rich maritime hints of ships and the sea, as well as enticing notes of seaweed, salt crystals and warm sand mixed with sweet notes of rich toffee - beneath these lie intriguingly deep layers of other aromas: hints of canvas, iodized sea air and a distant beach fire, the smoky note of which is intensified by a splash of water
Palate: full body - a great, wonderfully smooth texture and a delicious umami flavor where waves of smoky sweet intensity and the full power of the sea meet on the palate - the result is zesty and slightly dry, while a deliciously peppery warmth lingers pushes forward to encapsulate those smooth, rich notes from the depths of the sea - a drop of water softens the taste experience and creates a sweeter flavor with just a pinch of salt, but the spiciness lingers, albeit now in the form of Szechuan pepper
Finish: very long finish - with a sweet chili pepper warmth that fills the palate - fragrant smoke and sweetness linger on the finish
