One House, one Cask, a unique experience: Kirsch Import & Wu Dram Clan bring Fillioux Cognac from 1955/1960
On the way to the vines he calls his dog to him - "XO".
Christophe Fillioux is the fifth generation to run the Jean Fillioux house with heart and soul, beard and glasses.
The picturesque winery La Pouyade has been family-owned since 1894 and is still completely independent today.
It is surrounded by 25 hectares of the finest, sustainably grown white wine grapes.
They thrive in the "Golden Triangle", the heart of the Grande Champagne, on the best growing area of the Charente.
Connoisseur Christophe brings out the best in them: extremely aromatic cognacs that are appreciated around the world.
We got a personal impression of the artistry of the house together with Sebastian Jäger from the Wu Dram Clan last November - and came across a barrel that sums up Fillioux's skills: a Cognac Grande Champagne, married from the vintages 1955 and 1960.
The cask-strong single estate single cask takes you on an intoxicating journey of taste.
Anyone who can secure one of the 354 bottles will be greeted by citrus freshness, dark sweetness and leathery spiciness in the aroma and experience lush maple syrup, exotic fruits and complex spices in the taste.
The experience ends with caramel, cinnamon, kola nut and orange liqueur.
Nose: fresh bergamot, roasted almonds, corn sugar, fully ripe quince and greasy leather, plus liquorice and spice
Palate: Lush maple syrup leads to elderflower and very woody notes of fresh moss and porcini mushrooms - this is joined by overripe apricots, fresh mangoes and passion fruit and a spicy panorama of cinnamon, clove and cardamom, liquorice, allspice, ginger and orange zest
Finish: Layers of caramel, cinnamon, kola nut and orange liqueur
