Founded in 1974, Auchroisk is a newcomer compared to some of its old Speyside counterparts.
The distillery draws its water from Dorries Well, a spring as old as the hills that surround the distillery and which gives this whiskey its smooth and subtle character.
First bottled as a single malt in 1986, Auchroisk was the first to bear the prefix "Singleton", a name now associated with single malts from Glen Ord, Glendullan and Dufftown.
Worth knowing about the distillery
The Auchroisk Distillery was built by International Distillers & Vintners Ltd. to plans by Westminster Design Associates. built in 1972.
The name "Auchroisk" is Gaelic and means "passage by the red water".
The location for the buildings was chosen due to the discovery of the well "Dorries well".
This fountain is quietly hidden in a crevice in the rock.
Today a building protects the well.
Nose: light with a pleasant sweetness, lemon zest and lemon candy, along with jam, plums and candied fruit
Palate: very nutty, especially walnuts, plus clear marzipan, some pepper and dark chocolate
Finish: short and dry on the finish with a peppery note, plus malty tones and biscuit
