With Lochlea, the Scottish distillery landscape has recently grown to include an independent, family-run farm distillery.
The former Laphroaig Distillery Manager and current Lochlea Production Director and Master Blender, John Campbell, is not the only one responsible for the unmistakable style of their single malt.
One of only two distilleries in Scotland, Lochlea uses only their own barley, distilling and aging their whisky on site.
The standard single malt is expected for summer.
Until then, Lowland Distillery is shortening the wait with their first seasonal release.
Lochlea Sowing Edition First Crop ushers in an annual series of limited seasonal bottlings.
Each of them will show Lochlea Single Malt in a different light, reflecting what is happening on the farm as the seasons change.
Around spring everything comes to life and the seed for this year's barley is sown.
A lively, powerful time that brings the Sowing Edition to the point in terms of taste.
For the profile characterized by green apples, pears and raspberries, warm shortbread and fresh, floral notes, the single malt matures 100% in first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels.
Nose: green apple peel, pear candy, cereal and custard cream biscuits
Taste: Vanilla sweetness, ripe garden fruits and hazelnuts
Finish: fruity with a final sweetness and persistent viscosity
