Don Papa Port Casks celebrates the 500th anniversary of the first circumnavigation of the earth, an adventurous voyage that first landed the Spanish in what is now the Philippines.

500 years ago, Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan was commissioned by Emperor Charles V (King Carlos I of Spain) to embark on an expedition in search of the Spice Islands.

In doing so, he sent him on an odyssey to the other side of the world that would forever change the course of history and maritime navigation.

This intense, full-bodied spirit from the island of Negros, which was stored in unique climatic conditions on the foothills of the Kanlaon volcano, shows the even more complex side.

First it matured in ex-bourbon casks for two years.

The rum was then transferred to casks previously filled with rich, red Ruby Port for a further five years of aging.

The result is a dark rum with a spicy character and a warm temperament that reveals long-lasting fruit notes and brings out the royal port wine casks wonderfully.

Nose: Resonant, deep aromas of liquorice, polished oak, dark chocolate and muscovado sugar emerge first, followed by hearty blood oranges, ripe red berries and a subtle undertone of fresh vanilla beans

Taste: Rich and mouth-filling, and incredibly complex - notes of toasted oak, cinnamon, Arabica coffee and toffee are balanced by subtle overtones of fresh vanilla sweetness, ripe garden fruit and brown sugar
