Product information "Glendalough 7 year old Mizunara Finish"
An Irish single malt whiskey, distilled three times in pot stills, first matured in ex-bourbon casks for about seven years, followed by a second maturation for 6 to 12 months in rare Mizunara oak casks (500l capacity, level 3 charred).
The extraordinary wood from the Japanese island of Hokkaido is laboriously cooperated into barrels; it is particularly brittle, so it imparts a lot of flavor to the whiskey.
As a result, the angel's share, the evaporation during ripening, is particularly high.
The combination of the influences of wood from the north of Japan and Irish barley results in a unique single malt.

Nose: lively, fruity and floral on the nose
Palate: An opulent, smooth mouthfeel - Fresh citrus flavors combine with orchard fruits on the palate - Bisquit malt notes throughout, vanilla, caramel and honey flavors through the bourbon casks - Mizunara wood brings dark chocolate, orange, sandalwood and cinnamon
Finish: These varied and well-integrated notes are rounded off with a long finish of toasted oak and oriental spices

The characters on the label and the gift box stand for "Mizunara", the water oak.
The red thread around the neck of the bottle, which in Japanese tradition symbolizes the fateful connection of 2 things, here symbolizes the combination of Irish whiskey craftsmanship and Japanese wood.
This connection is explained on the banderole.
The label and the gift packaging are of particularly high quality.
The bottle is also wrapped in tissue paper.
The red part of the gift box explains the special feature of the Mizunara oak.

Worth knowing about the Japanese Mizunara oak
A Mizunara oak grows slowly.
A tree has to be 200 years old before it can be processed.
American oak, on the other hand, takes 80-100 years.
A barrel may be made from a Mizunara tree; an American oak offers 3-5 barrels.
Mizunara oaks tend to grow twisted.
It may even be the case that a purchased strain turns out to be unsuitable for barrel making after purchase.
The entire year's harvest of Mizunara strains is sold in a blind auction in one day.
A Mizunara cask costs EUR 3,000.00 - a Bourbon cask made from American oak, on the other hand, costs around EUR 150.00.
Only one cooperage sells these special casks.
Other casks are owned by the major Japanese distilleries.
"Mizunara" means "water oak", it takes three years to dry.
American oak takes just under a year to dry or is even kiln dried.
Cooperating barrels from Mizunara wood is extremely time-consuming.
The wood for the barrels is usually split, not sawn, as is usual.
The wood is very brittle, but it gives off a lot of its exotic taste to the whiskey.
