The year 2022 starts off splendidly with a fitting bottling: the Daftmill Single Cask for Germany. The Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky is based on barley of the Optic variety from the Farm Distillery's own fields. After 12 years of aging in a first-filled Oloroso Sherry Butt, Francis and Ian Cuthbert filled the amber-colored Dram in 627 bottles - and give fans in this country a huge New Year's joy.
At Daftmill Farm, everything actually revolves around the cultivation of brewing barley, the rearing of beef cattle, potatoes, carrots and broccoli. However, since 2018 the business of the Cuthbert family from Fife in the Scottish Lowlands has been firmly marked on the whiskey world map: After more than 12 years of waiting, Daftmill brought its first single malt onto the market. The Cuthberts produce their Scotch in very small quantities, sometimes no more than 100 barrels a year, from their own barley. Burning is only done in the off-season (June, July and winter) when there is no need to plant potatoes or sow barley.
