The Welsh language is one of the oldest in Europe and one of the most expressive Welsh words is "Hiraeth".
So what does "Hiraeth" mean, the term Penderyn honors with the 8th edition of the "Icon of Wales series"?
Well, it's not that easy to translate into English because it has some kind of magical meaning.
Some definitions are: "belonging", "homesickness", "regret", "nostalgia", "nostalgia" or "longing for a home that one cannot return to", but also "for a home that may never have existed has".
Another definition is "a sense of loss to an old country" as Wales was a dynamic and prosperous country in the Middle Ages.
Penderyn prides itself on being a Welsh company and part of the renaissance of Welsh industry in a country that is becoming increasingly optimistic.
Hiraeth is a powerful word, especially for Welsh people around the world.
With Penderyn now represented in over 45 countries, it seemed like the perfect symbol to celebrate Wales and Welshness.
This single malt whisky is a vatting made from a high proportion of double-distilled whisky that has matured in former bourbon barrels with a smaller proportion of single-distilled single malt that has matured in STR barrels.
This is Penderyn's first bottling, largely based on single malt from a series of double stills that first started operating in 2014.
Nose: elegant and floral with light oak notes - vanilla, raisins, toffee, apples, citrus and a hint of lime zest
Palate: delicate and soft with notes of honey-like fruits, vanilla, cinnamon and a hint of nutmeg
Finish: soft honey and vanilla notes that merge into a malty finish
