This single malt Scotch whisky matured for a proud 25 years - a quarter of a century the Caperdonich distillery in Speyside, Scotland.
Nose: clearly soft peat smoke and fruity aromas of ripe fruit - especially apples and pears - spicy hints in the background
Taste: mouth-filling with lots of sweet peat smoke - reminiscent of a campfire with burning peat logs, plus the ripe green apples and pears
Finish: very long and soft finish - peat smoke and fruit are present for a long time
The Speyside distillery was built in 1898 as "Branch" of Glen Grant.
The two distilleries were connected by a pipeline and Caperdonich was therefore called "Glen Grant No. 2".
Just four years later, in 1902, the distillery was shut down again.
Only after the Grants merged with Glenlivet and when the distillery was completely overhauled, operations resumed in 1965.
Caperdonich is now part of Chivas & Glenlivet Group.
Caperdonich produces a very solid, rather dry malt, as a single malt it is usually only available from independent bottlers.
Most of the production goes into the Chivas Regal blends.
