Rebellious rums from Grenada: Mark Reynier's Renegade Rum Distillery
Since the start of his Waterford Distillery in Ireland, Mark Reynier has become the mouthpiece for terroir whiskeys - single malts with the taste of their origin.
He has transferred his search for the quintessence of individual terroirs and the ultimate whole that they collectively to the rum category.
In 2020, the first distillate flowed from the Renegade rum distillery on the tiny Caribbean island of Grenada.
Reynier has been planning the innovative distillery, largely run by Grenada's residents, since 2015.

Farm by farm, field by field, terroir by terroir, the taste of the Single Farm Origin Rums Grenada is 100% traceable and transparent.
Renegade presses fresh sugar cane juice from six types of sugar cane 45 different terroirs.
In addition to a column still, a pot still with a double retort still is available for a diverse distillation - Casks made of French, American and exotic oak for a variety of maturing.
The first five bottlings, however, show the curious and connoisseurs pure Grenada rum - without Cask or other influences.
As with New Bracelet, the rugged terroir of Dunfermline is the basis for the very sugary variety Lacalome Red - the Dunfermline rums are distilled in two different ways, in addition to the Pot Still distillation presented here, there is another bottling with Column Still distillation.
