Black Tot Master Blender's Reserve 2021 54,5%vol. 0,7l
As a sailor in the Royal Navy you had a choice: either rum or the equivalent in cash - until July 31, 1970.
On "Black Tot Day" the last ration of rum or "dead" was handed out.
The Black Tot 50th Anniversary Rum celebrated the end of this tradition in 2020.
Parts of the anniversary blend now served as the basis for Master Blender’s reserve.
The limited bottling appears 100 years after the end of rum rations in the Australian Navy and demonstrates how widespread the practice once was.
For the multinational blend, head blender Oliver Chilton filled parts of the Black Tot 50th Anniversary rum from last year into sherry barrels and butts - supplemented by a small part
of the original British Royal Navy rum as well as particularly fruity, 9-24 year old rum qualities from Guyana, Barbados, Trinidad, Jamaica and Australia.
You can find out exactly how the elegant blend is made up on the Black Tot website.
We already reveal the tempting result here: Tropical fruits, citrus notes and chocolate merge with sweet spices, honey and herbs.
Nose: cinnamon sticks, cooked in brown butter, with nutmeg and cloves, overripe mangoes and baked bananas with dusty dark chocolate, satsumas and freshly squeezed navel oranges with juicy nectarines and boiled honey - in the background: a dense oily note with herbaceous notes Combines aromas of mint and lemon thyme
Taste: intense notes of orange and mango juice with fresh mint and brown caster sugar, sweetness of milk chocolate and salted caramel and intensifying fruit with notes of guava and passion fruit as well as orange blossom, which are balanced by liquid honey
Finish: Clementines and mandarins unfold with a pleasant dryness that is reminiscent of thyme and oregano - at the very end there is a hint of diesel
