The distillery started in 1880, when George Dickel (1818-1888) began to produce whiskey in the former Cascad distillery.
Note the Scottish spelling without "e"!
Today's Dickel distillery was built in 1958 and only since 1964 is the whiskey bottled under its current name.
It's a very elegant whiskey - George Dickel is considered an insider's tip, unfortunately it stands in the shadow of the other, very large Tennessee whiskey named Jack Daniel's, which is only a few miles away.
The cereal mixture used by Dickel has been unchanged for years - 80% corn, 12% rye, 8% barley malt - the sour mash percentage is 25%.
