A lot of Aguardentes are made in Portugal - in small house distilleries to large distilleries.
Most of them are pomace brandies that are simply a by-product, but a special variety is made directly from wine: Aguardente Vinica.

These are rather rare and are stored in oak barrels for many years, so that you get a high-quality matured spirit that is not really inferior to brandy or cognac - on the contrary: this niche is far from being as widespread and known and thus a gem that arouses curiosity!
