Dunedin 18 year old Double Wood The New Zealand Whisky Co. 40%vol. 0,5l
Product information "Dunedin 18 year old Double Wood The New Zealand Whisky Co. 40%vol. 0,5l"
Whisky has been produced in New Zealand since the 1830s.
At this time Scottish emigrants came to the island, who of course did not want to do without their "water of life".
The Whisky industry flourished until the 1870s before it was crushed due to legal regulations.
This Whisky production was brought back to life in the 1950s.
In 1974 the Willowbank Distillery opened in Dunedin, which produced well-known Whiskys such as the Wilsons or 45 South.
Willowbank was bought by Seagrams, at that time the world's largest distillery, in the 1980s and successfully developed under this new leadership.
Whisky production came to a quick end in 1997 when Seagrams sold the Willowbank Distillery to Fosters, who stopped whiskey production in New Zealand and sent the stills from the Willowbank Distillery to Fiji to make rum.
In 2009 the last 443 Casks were bought by the New Zealand Whisky Company, which was founded for this purpose.
The Dunedin DoubleWood 18 Years old pays homage to the DoubleWood bottling of the Preston family, the predecessor of the New Zealand Whisky Company.
The Prestons DoubleWood was given a two-year finish in Wine Barrels, while the new bottling, after 6 years of aging in bourbon barrels, was able to mature in New Zealand Pinot and Cabernet Sauvignon Barrels for a full 12 years.
As with the Oamaruvian, the Dunedin DoubleWood is a Blended Whisky made from 70% single malt & 30% premium Grain Whisky from the Willowbank distillery.
A very complex Whisky with a lot of fruit, a natural sweetness and nice oak flavor.
