Inspired by the historic Blackpitts district just behind the new Teeling whiskey distillery in Newmarket in the old Liberties area of Dublin, this area has been synonymous with many industries and malting in particular.
Blackpitts has traditionally been home to some of the largest barley malting plants in Ireland.
By using peat smoke to dry the barley during the malting process The resulting peat malt creates a characteristic smoky taste profile that is the signature of a peated single malt.

What makes Teeling Blackpitts so unique , is the triple distillation process that reduces some of the medicinal character one would expect from a traditional Scottish peated single malt and lets the more distinctive barbecue smoke shine.
This is then followed by the cha characteristic, innovative barrel aging of the teeling, in which both exBourbon and exSauternes white wine barrels are used, which have an alcohol content of 46%vol. can be bottled without cold filtration to create a really different and unique expression of Teeling and Irish Whiskey.

The inspiration for its use This barrel came from an earlier bottling of a 24 year old single malt whiskey from Teeling, which was named "World's Best Single Malt" at the World Whiskeys Awards in 2019.
