Glenfarclas' anniversary bottling of the Scottish personalities - the 25th edition!
Limited to 3,600 bottles, this bottling is a homage to the first edition - which was then dedicated to Bonnie Prince Charlie - and so this edition is his helper in need, Flora MacDonald, Dedicated!

Flora MacDonald (1722-1790)
A staunch Jacobite who helped Prince Charles Edward Stuart to flee Scotland after his defeat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746 .
The grandson of James II of England led the second Jacobite Rebellion in 1745 to overthrow King George II.
After his defeat, Bonnie had Prince Charlie ("handsome Charlie" as he was known by the people) ) flee.
During his escape he met Flora who, after a brief hesitation, agreed to help him.

Disguised as the Irish maid Betty Burke, the prince set sail with Flora on June 27, 1746 and landed on the Isle of Skye.
After After hiding in a hut overnight, they made their way overland to Portree, where the prince could get back to France.
The two never met again.

As the English learned of Flora's role in the Prince's escape, Flora was arrested and briefly detained in the Tower of London.
After her release in 1747, she returned to Scotland.

But this was not the end of Flora's adventures .
In 1744 she emigrated to North Carolina with her older children.
However, during the American Revolution, Flora lost everything, had to leave America and from then on lived in Nova Scotia.

In 1779 Flora finally returned Scotland back.
She died on March 5th, 1790 and is buried in Kilmuir on Skye.

Flora is still celebrated today for her loyalty and bravery.
Her honor is a statue in Inverness , the capital of the Highlands.
