Portrait: What makes the Vital Spark Refill Sherry Butt.
"Vital Spark" means something like vital spark - and in fact, this lavish single malt whiskey can very well awaken the spirits of life. The name is borrowed from a Scottish coastal ship that traveled on the River Clyde in the 1930s and transported whiskey barrels and coal.
Which distillery is behind this malt? This does not reveal the bottler, the Meadowside Blending company from Glasgow. The family business was founded in 2011 by Donald Hart and his son Andrew. Donald Hart? Exactly, Donald Hart, who with his brothers as Hart Brothers has stood for excellent single malt fillings since 1964. He now uses this experience to select the barrels of the new company. With success. Bottling under the name The Maltman has long had a large fan base.
But back to the Vital Spark: The fourth batch in the series is considered the most balanced and impressive of all - a peated Highland Single Malt Whiskey with a rich Oloroso Sherry finish. Bottled at the age of 10 and in a limited edition of only 1,891 bottles.
Tasting Notes: This is what the Vital Spark Refill Sherry Butt tastes like
- Aroma: heavy and lush, clear peat and smoke and maritime associations reminiscent of an old sailing ship in the harbor.
- Taste: A full, oily, creamy body. In addition to the peat smoke, there are freshly tarred ropes, medicinal notes, black pepper and salty liquorice, but also citrus notes and delicate sherry sweetness.
- Finish: peat, ash and sea salt stay long together with a creamy sherry sweetness.
