Pusser's 50th Anniversary Rum 54,5%vol. 0,7l

For more than three centuries, the British Royal Navy sailors received a daily ration of rum (called "Black Tot Day") on board their ships from the ship's paymaster ("Purser").
The paymaster was affectionately called "Pusser" by the crew - this resulted in the "Pusser's Rum" brand.
To date, Pusser's Rum is blended and bottled according to the recipes most recently used by the British Royal Navy.

On July 31, 1970 the British Royal Navy poured out the last ration of rum to the crews - the day came in British naval history as "Black Tot Day".
In 2020 the Black Tot Day will be celebrated for the fiftieth time - on this occasion Pusser's Rum is presenting this edition, which is limited to 5,000 bottles worldwide - each bottle is individually numbered.

It contains rum qualities from Trinidad (from two distilleries) and Guyana (from three distilleries), bottled with an alcohol content of 54.5% vol. (109 proof) - in accordance with the requirements of the Royal Navy Admiralty at that time.

Nose: a warm mixture of rich molasses and sweet brown sugar, with spicy aromas of nutmeg, clove and cinnamon
Taste: brown sugar at the beginning, followed by luscious notes of sultanas, plums, and ripe tropical fruits
Finish: long finish - warm, spicy oak tones and roasted caramel - above all English toffee

A little more on the history of rum rations

Although not officially approved by the Admiralty in London, the first documented release of rum to the Royal Navy fleet came after the victory in the Battle of Jamaica under the command of Admiral Penn in 1655 to the squadrons in the West Indies.
The admiralty found the rum (or initially wine) with its higher alcohol content than beer to be a good substitute, as the beer became acidic after about two weeks at sea.
In 1731, the Admiralty Authority officially authorized half a pint of rum (or a pint of wine) to be poured out to the crews, and the ration was served in two equal quantities per day unless beer was available.
The daily edition was called "The Tot" and is said to have been doubled before the fight and after the victory!

At the beginning of the 19th century, rum became the preferred liquor product on board most British Royal Navy ships, especially on foreign expeditions.
Over the years, the Admiralty reduced and watered down the ration, but it was still a tradition that every sailor looked forward to after a hard day at sea.

In 1970, the Admiralty Authority concluded that rum "was no longer compatible with the required high standards".
July 31, 1970 was the last day the ration was served to the British Royal Navy fleet - "Black Tot Day" was born.
