The Netherlands are famous for their genever, the pioneer of the gin - and so it is not surprising that the Dutch can also distill a perfect gin.
The Dutch distillery Zuidam produces this Old Tom Gin (the sweet counterpart to Dry Gin!) In small batches with ten different botanicals, including, of course, juniper berries, orange and lemon peels and coriander, plus vanilla, licorice, iris root and elderflower.
Nose: an elegant, light sweetness, very floral with vanilla, juniper and licorice flavors
Taste: again the sweetness, then lemons and ripe oranges, slightly malty in the taste with noticeable juniper and coriander - above all sweet vanilla tones
Finish: medium, pleasantly sweet finish
