This eight-year Kilkerran from the Glengyle distillery matured in former bourbon barrels and was bottled in 2017 in barrel strength.

Aroma: clearly peat smoke and fresh, green apples - then roasted rhubarb with vanilla sauce and shortbread
Taste: earthy and salty notes with some sugar and milk chocolate, walnut behind
Finish: again the peat, plus soot and shavings of a sharpened pencil - sweet malt

Dieser Whisky zeigt das hohe Potential dieser noch jungen Distillery. Eine für einen 8-jährigen Whisky enorme Vielschichtigkeit an Aromen zeichnet ihn aus, wobei die Aromen hauptsächlich dem handwerklich sehr gut gemachten Destilat zuzuschreiben sind. Gemessen am Alter ein Spitzenwhisky.

Gemessen am hohen Kilkerran-Standard war ich ganz leicht enttäuscht. Doch immer noch ein sehr guter Malt von einer vorbildlich geführten Brennerei.

Etwas weniger reif, dafür aber mit ordentlich Wumms im Vergleich zum 12-jährigen Kilkerran. Ausgewogen, exzellent produzierter Malt.
