Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881)

Thomas Carlyle was born in 1795 in Ecclefechan, east of Dumfries in southern Scotland.
Carlyle contributed significantly to the spread of German literature in the UK, he translated, inter alia, Goethe's work "Wilhelm Meister" and wrote a biography of Schiller.
His best-known work is "Sartor Resartus" from 1831, as well as a treatise on the French Revolution of 1837.
