Portrait: What makes the A.H. Riise XO Reserve Gold Medal special
There are gold medals that end up in a display case. And there are those that end up in the bottle. The A.H. Riise XO Reserve Gold Medal clearly belongs to the second category – and lives up to its name.
The story begins – like so many good stories – in the 19th century, more precisely 1888. At the Industrial, Agricultural, and Art Exhibition in Copenhagen, a certain Albert Heinrich Riise was awarded a gold medal for his "excellent product." And how does a true rum fan thank him for that? Exactly: You bottle the occasion later.
The A.H. Riise XO Reserve is now an integral part of the brand's portfolio, which - surprise - doesn't originate directly from the Caribbean, but from Denmark. The rums, however, are imported from the Virgin Islands, more precisely from Saint Thomas, where Mr. Riise once worked as a pharmacist (and presumably also as a connoisseur).
Back then, his products were officially still considered medicine - which might explain why waiting for the doctor suddenly became so popular.
The XO Reserve Gold Medal not only honors the quality of that time, but also demonstrates that A.H. Riise knows how to combine history with enjoyment—and does so with style.
In short: Anyone who says you can't drink medals hasn't tried this one yet.
Tasting Notes: This is how the A.H. Riise XO Reserve Gold Medal tastes like
- Nose: Fine aromas of ripe citrus fruits open the bouquet, with a clear focus on oranges and tangerines. They are accompanied by sweet sugar cane syrup and a subtle molasses aroma.
- Palate: Balanced and creamy on the palate. The orange notes now emerge even more clearly and combine harmoniously with the sweetness of the sugar cane. Spicy nuances develop further, including fresh tobacco leaves.
- Finish: The finish is medium-long and pleasantly round, with a balanced balance of sweet and spicy components.
Allergy Advice: May contain traces of walnuts
