Like all Scottish whiskey distilleries, Glenrothes used to malt barley over peat smoke.
The Malt Whiskeys of Glenrothes characterized themselves by a light peat smoke until the 1940s into - today's Peated Cask Reserve receives its peat flavor by an additional storage in barrels, in which previously stored Islay whiskeys.
Aroma: pleasantly spicy aromas of cloves, nutmeg and coriander, accompanied by light notes of vanilla and peat smoke
Taste: the spice remains, the vanilla is stronger and it is joined by notes of ripe citrus - again the slight peat smoke on everything
Finish: long, spicy finish
