Benriachs Latada first matured in classic exBourbon barrels and then received a finish in former Madeira barrels.
The used barley was malted over peat fire - so this noble single malt whiskey received beside fruity notes also strong smoky and peaty tones.
Latada is the name given to Madeira's vine production, in which the vines are grown horizontally above the ground.
Aroma: Smoke from a campfire, peat smoke and heather honey, ripe pears and traces of cantaloupe - candied citrus fruits in the background
Taste: mouth-filling sweet with a clear peat character - then many ripe fruits, almost like syrup - dried apricots and warming spice with clearly oak
Departure: warm spicy, the oak is still present, with citrus peels - long, soft finish
