The Tomatin 14 years was presented in 2014.
The single malt first matured in classic former bourbon barrels and then received a one-year finish in Tawny port wine barrels.

Das Finish im Portwein-Fass war nahezu perfekt. Süße Früchte mit nussigen Noten, ein herrlicher Geschmack.
Der Preisanstieg ist spürbar und spricht für die Nachfrage. Man kann ihn aber problemlos unter 60€ finden.

Sehr leckerer - eher weicher - Whisky.
Der Preis-Sprung von ehemals etwa 35,- € (in 2019) auf aktuell knapp 60,- € (nun in 2021) ist m.E. vollkommen übertrieben.

Guter Whiskey, da ich persönlich Sherry Fass gelagerte bevorzuge, würde ich den 18 jährigen Oloroso Fass gelagerten vorziehen. Wer auf die Port gelagerten steht, der ist hier sehr gut beraten.

Kurzfassung:
Einer der Whiskies mit dem besten Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis. 14 Jahre für oft unter 40 Euro geschmacklich sehr zugänglich für Whisky-Neulinge, aber bietet auch für Profis einiges an Tiefe und Komplexität. Nicht rauchig.

Nase: Betörend fruchtig nach Pflaumen, Kirschen und Johannisbeeren. Mit etwas Wasser udn/oder etwas Zeit im Glas verliert er das leichte Stechen des Alkohols (46%), welches er beim ersten Verriechen je nach Tagesform haben kann. Dieses verfliegt jedoch auch beim zweiten oder dritten Schluck. Vorrausgesetzt man nimmt sich etwss Zeit.

Gaumen: Außergewöhnlich samtiges und cremiges Mundgefühl. Die Portwein-Nachreifung macht sich bemerkbar durch eine deutliche Fruchtigkeit und zurückhaltende Süße. Pflaumen und Kirschen setzen sich durch. Das Bourbon Fass trägt die Fruchtnoten in äußerst angenehmer Art und Weise.

Abgang: Der Portwein scheint kein süßer Ruby Port gewesen zu sein. Zu trocken ist er dafür im Abgang. So bleiben komplexere würzig-fruchtige Noten zurück die mittellang ausklingen und den Genießer zu einem weiteren Schluck einladen.

Fazit: Erstaunlich, was eine gute Nachreifung bewirken kann, wenn bereits das Destillat gut und die erste Bourbonfass-Reifung in aktiven Fässern gehobenerer Qualität erfolgreich war. Bei diesem Preis führt nichts an 5 von 5 Sternen vorbei.

In der Nase toll! Feine Vanille trifft auf Eichenwürze mit rotfruchtigen Weingummiaromen.

Im Mund breitet sich der Malt die Aromen dann eher pfeffrig und zartbitter aus. So schön rotfruchtig und voll wie in der Nase tut er das allerdings nicht und für meinen Gechmack leider auch mit einem Tick zu viel Alkoholschärfe.

Eine der größeren Überraschungen hat mir dieser Whisky bereitet, die ich in der Preisklasse so nicht erwartet hätte. Sein enorm fruchtiger Antritt mit so vielen aromatischen und geschmacklichen Nuancen hat mich völlig überzeugt. Er kann sich neben dem Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban leicht behaupten.
