Portrait: What Makes the Connemara Distillers Edition Special
The Connemara Distillers Edition is an exceptional representative of the Irish whiskey scene - and the only regularly peated single malt range in Ireland. The Distillers Edition further underlines this character with a finish in Oloroso sherry casks after the classic maturation in ex-bourbon casks. It is bottled with a slightly higher alcohol content of 43% vol., which gives it more depth and expression.
Connemara is produced at the Cooley Distillery in Riverstown, County Louth, Northern Ireland. The distillery was founded in 1987 by John Teeling and was long considered a pioneer of independent Irish whiskey production before being acquired by Jim Beam in 2011 and is now part of the Beam-Suntory Group.
Peat fire distillery is used kilned Irish barley malt – a rarity on the Emerald Isle. The double distillation gives the whisky a slim, elegant body. The water used comes from sand-filtered springs in the Cooley Mountains.
As the most award-winning Irish whiskey brand, Connemara has made a name for itself – especially among lovers of peaty whiskeys. The Distillers Edition is considered a high-quality, limited special release, often bottled specifically for markets such as France - a harmonious combination of Irish origin and smoky character.
Tasting Notes: This is what the Connemara Distillers Edition tastes like
- Nose: fruity and inviting, with juicy aromas of ripe apples and red berries - a distinct sherry sweetness emerges and combines harmoniously with vanilla and a gentle smoky note - light hints of peat provide depth without being dominant - overall balanced and complex
- Palate: soft and round on the palate - the fruity sherry notes set continue and are reminiscent of dried fruits such as raisins and figs - the vanilla is present and provides a pleasant sweetness, which is underlined by mild peat and subtle smoke - a beautiful balance between sweetness, spice, and smokiness
- Finish: long and warming - the sherry character remains clearly noticeable and is accompanied by a gentle, dry smoky note - the peat is also present in the aftertaste, but never intrusive - an elegant, harmonious finish with a trace of dark chocolate and oak

Rauchig und fruchtig, mild und aromatisch. Meines Wissens der einzige Whiskey, für den die Gerste über Torffeuer ger#uchert wird.
