Two boys. A cracked Lada. A journey full of detours through an unknown Germany.

Mother in the withdrawal clinic, father with assistant on business trip: Maik Klingenberg will spend the great holiday alone at the pool of the parental villa. But then Tschick turns up. Tschick, actually Andrej Tschichatschow, comes from one of the high-rise Asi buildings in Hellersdorf, has made it from the special school somehow to high school and yet does not look like the model of integration. He also has a stolen car at hand. And so begins an unforgettable journey without a map and compass through the summer-glowing German province.

Wolfgang Herrndorf, born in Hamburg in 1965, studied painting and, among other things, drew for the "Titanic". In 2002 he published his debut novel "In Plush Thunderstorms", in 2007 the narrative volume "This Side of the Van Allen Belt" and in 2010 the novel "Tschick", which became the surprise hit of the year. Wolfgang Herrndorf has won awards including the German Storytelling Prize (2008), the Brentano Prize (2011), the German Youth Literature Prize (2011), the Hans Fallada Prize and the Leipzig Book Prize (2012). Wolfgang Herrndorf died on 26th August 2013.

Reviews on the book:
Herrndorf's language is precise down to the last detail, but it always reads so easily that one easily forgets how difficult it is to get such a natural sound. (Felicitas von Lovenberg, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung)

You laugh a lot when you're reading, but just as often you're touched, sometimes with tears. tschick is a book that makes an adult completely happy and that you can give to the heroes' peers at any time. (Gustav Seibt, Süddeutsche Zeitung)

tschick is a beautiful, sad adventure novel from the enigmatic German East, which has only one drawback: that it ends much too fast. (Jörg Magenau, Deutschlandradio)

tschick is youth novel and road movie at the same time, from beginning to end a great literary fun. (Gerrit Bartels, Der Tagesspiegel)

A story that you can not tell often enough, wants to read ... existential, comforting, big. (Tobias Rüther, Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung)
