Whiskey for all - Irish short stories - John B. Keane
Several of his works were filmed.
John B. Keane, a literary legend in Ireland, spent years together with his wife Mary a pub in Listowel, County Kerry. People from the area met there after work, and the landlord often involuntarily became the confessor of the various idiosyncratic types.
We meet many of them in Keanes humorous, bizarre stories with a lot of heart.
Sláinte! Bottom up!
An Irishman from America who hopes to finally find the woman intended for him in Ireland; a shopkeeper, who waits until the ripe old age at the river under the maple tree for the woman of his dreams; a little girl who completely changed the life of a postman: lovable nerds on bridal show; Spouses who love each other, sometimes hate and yet master everyday life together; weird, hard-working and extremely hard-drinking peasants - of whom John B. Keane tells in his cheerful, loveable and contemplative, definitely very Irish stories.
