Douglas Laing & Co. was founded in 1950 as a blending company.
The core business is still old-fashioned blends - the main markets for Douglas Laing & Co. are Latin America and Asia.
Since this business has been declining since the mid-90s, it has been decided to fill the best malts from its own stock as a single malt.
This resulted in the high quality "The Old Malt Cask" series as well as the "McGibbon's Provenance" series.
Caperdonich "The old Malt Cask"
The Speyside distillery was built in 1898 as a "branch" of Glen Grant.
The two distilleries were connected by a pipeline and Caperdonich was called therefore for a long time "Glen Grant No.2".
Four years later, in 1902, the distillery was shut down again.
Only after the merger of the Grants with Glenlivet and when the distillery was completely outdated, the operation was resumed in 1965.
Caperdonich is now part of the Chivas & Glenlivet Group.
Caperdonich produces a very solid, rather dry malt, as single malt he is only from independent bottlers to get.
Most of the production goes into the Chivas Regal blends.
This Caperdonich matured for 18 years in a Refill Hogshead barrel.
Aroma: initially sweet and fruity, then clear spicy aromas
Taste: mild and sweet-sweet, light vanilla notes and crushed peaches
Finish: long and fresh, clearly lemon peel and barley sugar
