The Powers 12 Year Old John's Lane Release is a high-quality single pot still Irish whiskey from Powers, which today belongs to the Irish Distillers (Pernod Ricard) group. The name is reminiscent of the original John's Lane Distillery in Dublin, where the brand originated in the 18th century. Even though the historic distillery closed in 1976, its tradition lives on in this special bottling, which is now produced at the Midleton Distillery in County Cork.
Maturation takes place for at least twelve years in carefully selected American bourbon casks. This is complemented by a further maturation in Oloroso sherry butts, which gives the whiskey additional depth and complexity. It is bottled at a robust 46% ABV, without the addition of colorings and without chill filtration – a sign of artisanal quality and authenticity.
The whiskey is produced using the traditional pot still method, typical of Powers, which requires no grain whiskey at all. Since its launch in 2011, the John's Lane Release has been considered a premium edition with a strong connection to its historical origins. A worthy homage to Dublin's whiskey past, modernly interpreted and masterfully executed.

Ich bin ein Whisky-Neueinsteiger und dieser ist nun mein erster Ire. Ja, er schmeckt mir, doch konnte ich noch keine Vergleiche machen. Die nächsten Iren werde ich aber mit Sicherheit ausprobieren. Grüße von Richie

Der John's Lane von Powers ist meines Erachtens etwas zu glatt und gefällig. Ein paar mehr Ecken oder Kanten täten ihm gut. Die Nase ist im Vergleich zum Mund fast enttäuschend. Eine Süße schwingt mit, aber kaum Komplexität. Auf der Zunge überdeckt die malzige Süße fast alle anderen Aromen. Der Abgang ist eher kurz - viel bleibt nicht.

Diesen Whisky habe ich "blind" bestellt, wollte malwieder etwas Neues probieren. Er ist gut, aber für mich könnte er etwas "würziger/kräftiger" im Geschmack sein. Verpackung und Versand waren perfekt. Danke.
