Winner of the WWA 2012 (World Whiskey Awards) in the category "Best Scotch Blended Malt"

The Wemyss family (pronounced Wiems) has been in the whiskey business since the beginning of the 20th century, starting with John Haig, who built his first distillery on the family property.
The family has been based in Wemyss Castle on the Firth of Fife near Edinburgh for more than 800 years.
The name Wemyss means "cave" and reflects the closeness of the family to coast and sea.

Wemyss has always been growing barley for the whiskey industry

The bottlings from Wemyss do not reveal the distilleries that make the malts or are part of their blends.
For Wemyss it is more important that the name of the bottling gives an indication of the taste.

Nette Idee, einen Vatted Malt aus diversen 12-jährigen "honigsüßen" Malts zu kreieren! Leider ist von der Süße nicht so wirklich viel zu erschmecken, wie ich mir erhofft hatte. Das schaffen gewisse einzelne Malts deutlich besser. Das Erlebnis ist etwas zu flach geraten, der Abgang relativ kurz, kaum Komplexität. Sind halt auch nur 40%. Schade!
