Portrait: What makes the Nevis Dew Blue Label special

Some whiskies come onto the market and disappear faster than you can say “whisky.” And then there’s the Nevis Dew Blue Label—a brand that already existed when the word “trend” probably hadn’t even been invented yet.

The story begins in the 1820s with Long John Macdonald, a man who apparently had not only a good sense of whisky but also of timing. While others were still debating whether whisky should perhaps be kept to oneself, he was already bringing his blended whisky to the public. An early influencer, one might say – only without social media, but with a significantly better sense of taste (and probably an impressive beard). The name "Nevis Dew" sounds almost poetic. "Dew" translates to "dew" – those tiny water droplets that glitter on meadows in the morning, pretending to have been working all night.
A charming idea: whisky inspired by the freshness of Scottish mornings. Or at least by the idea of it, because let's be honest – in Scotland, "fresh" is often just another word for "rather windy." Things get interesting in 2000, around the time of the International Wine & Spirit Competition.
Back then, the blend was still competing under the name "Millennium Blend" – a title that suggests high expectations. And indeed: He won gold. Not a bad start to the new millennium. Instead of retiring after that, it was decided to continue the whisky – albeit under a new name: Blue Label. Sounds a bit like a promotion, or at least a fancier suit.

Today, Nevis Dew Blue Label represents a long tradition in blended Scotch. Not a flashy newcomer, but rather the seasoned storyteller at the table who has seen it all – and remained remarkably composed. A whisky that doesn't try to reinvent the wheel, but instead reminds us that some things simply work timelessly well.

Tasting Notes: This is how the Nevis Dew Blue Label tastes like

  • Nose: Fresh, ripe lemons open the aroma profile and create a vibrant first impression. This is followed by aromas of fresh herbs, juicy apricots, and oatcakes. A malty base is accompanied by intense roasted aromas of wood and nuts.
  • Palate: Full-bodied and almost oily in texture, with strong impressions of fresh apple pie and heavily roasted walnuts. Ripe, yellow pears and a pleasant caramel sweetness are also present. Spicy accents of cinnamon, coriander, white pepper, and oak add further depth.
  • Finish: Long and harmonious with a balanced interplay of fruity and spicy notes that linger pleasantly.
