Douglas Laing & Co. was founded in 1950 as a blending company.
The core business is still old-fashioned blends - the main markets for Douglas Laing & Co. are Latin America and Asia.
Since this business has been declining since the mid-90s, it has been decided to fill the best malts from its own stock as a single malt.
This resulted in the high quality "The Old Malt Cask" series as well as the "McGibbon's Provenance" series.
Clynelish "The old Malt Cask"
The history of this Northern Highlands distillery is a bit confusing.
In 1819, a distillery was built under the name Clynelish and retained this name until 1969.
The previous year, 1968, the owners had a second distillery, also opened with the name Clynelish.
So they decided to rename the first distillery in Brora.
In this first distillery was produced until 1983 with some interruptions, since it is used as a warehouse for the new distillery Clynelish.
Brora is called only the whiskey from the old distillery, which was produced here from 1969 to 1983.
In the transitional period, between opening the new and renaming the old distillery, both produced under the name Clynelish.
The Clynelish distillery in the north of the Highlands produces a strong malt with full, distinctive character.
