Profile: What Makes La Cigarrera Amontillado Special
The Amontillado is made from Palomino grapes. It is dry, smooth, clean on the nose and palate, with a piquant, complex aroma. Ideal as an aperitif and as a stimulating wine at any time of day.
It is fortified with vinous alcohol to 17% ABV. It spends the first four years of its maturation under flor and then a further two years ageing oxidatively. The bodega La Cigarrera is based on the Plaza Madre de Dios in Sanlúcar de Barrameda.
Tasting Notes: What La Cigarrera Amontillado Tastes Like
- Nose: Intense and fine, with orange peel and golden raisins, plus saline and balsamic tones; almonds, walnuts, light herbal notes and warm wood
- Palate: A soft start with dried fruit and flowers, gaining intensity over time; saline and bitter notes, sea breeze and iodine; light and delicate with a touch of glycerol that hints at sweetness although the wine is dry
