They probably even grind the jokes by hand there – traditionally, of course, and guaranteed without unnecessary technology.

Springbank is one of those distilleries that stoically carries on doing things the way they see fit. Triple? Double? A little bit in between? Yes. Everything. And at the same time, none of it the way you'd expect. • Nose: Robust and complex with aromas of cured meat, barbecued beef jerky, clove, mint, iodine, Oxo cubes, and canned prunes – all influenced by the Oloroso barrel aging. Lobster creels also contribute a hint of the typical maritime Springbank note.
• Palate: The peaty side now becomes clearly apparent: Sooty kiln aromas and tobacco leaves initially dominate. Then come plums, walnuts, figs, demerara sugar, cocoa powder, and smoked meat, giving the dram a dense, powerful structure.
• Finish: A slowly developing aftertaste of soot, leather, and walnuts that eventually fades gently - like the ebb tide on a pebbly Kintyre Peninsula beach.
