With this single malt, Highlands & Islands Scotch Whiskey Company now has a real Islay classic in its portfolio. And in addition a mysterious ...

An “Ileach” is a resident of Islay - the island, which for friends of the peat fraction is the holy grail of the whiskey world. And one thing is certain: this whiskey comes from Islay. The distillery will not be revealed. Lagavulin, Caol Ila, and Laphoraig, among others, are among the common suspects that are often used in guesswork.

Honestly, we don't know either. But we would like to add an exciting thought to the puzzle: what if the same distillery hadn't always been behind the name "The Ileach" over the years? Maybe not very likely, but still possible. The respective bottling would still be a single malt.

The best thing is to research intensively and taste The Ileach bottlings from each year to see if anything has changed. That would undoubtedly be a pleasure. Because "The Man from Islay" is a wonderful whiskey. Powerful and lush. No wonder that he won gold years ago at the International Wine & Spirit Competition, an annual event comparable to the Academy Awards.

Tasting Notes: This is how the Ileach tastes

  • Aroma: Rich peat flavors with fresh herbs, damp oak and grass
  • Taste: Malty notes with a lot of peat and a peppery spice - with tannins, vanilla and traces of ripe fruit. The body is quite firm and almost oily.
  • Aftertaste: Pleasantly long, clear smoke, but also malt and iodine in the finish

Also ich bin bekenndner Fan von Islay Whisky. The Ileach fällt schon sehr in mein Beuteschema, wobei ich mich immer am Lagavulin 16 Jahre orientiere, für. Mich bis dato unerreicht.
Als Daly Whisky finde ich The Ileach hervorragend, ich würde ihn immer mal wieder kaufen.

Bereits die Nase hat ihre Freude an dem angenehm torfigen und ledrigen Geruch. Bei weiterem Schnuppern kommen fruchtige Noten zum Vorschein. Der Gaumen wird dann mit einem leicht herben aber vollmundigem Geschmack bedient. Und schließlich folgt dann der weiche und lange Abgang. Ich mag dieses Tröpfchen. Zudem ein sehr gutes Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis

Für mich als Finlaggan-Anhänger ein zweiter Versuch
eines unabhängigen Islays.
Leider bietet sich hier nicht viel Neues.
Geschmacklich stufe ich Ihn irgendwo zwischen
Finlaggan, the original peaty und Finlaggan, Old Reserve ein.
Letzterer jedoch etwas vollmundiger

Nachdem sich verschiedene Gerüchte um die Identität dieses Single Malt ranken, zu Beispiel die Idee eines jungen Lagavulin - einer meiner Lieblinge - wollte ich dem 'Mann von Islay' eine Chance geben. Abgesehen von der Farbe und Rauchigkeit hat er meiner Meinung nach wenig mit dem 16-jährigen Lagavulin gemeinsam, dennoch: die Ileach hat eine schöne Rauch- und Würznote, vor allem im Geschmack und Nachklang zeigt sich aber weniger eine Süße, sondern ein Geschmack, der an Nadelholz erinnert. Ingesamt sehr lecker und ein würdiger Vertreter der Islay-Malts.

Ich mag diesen Single Malt sehr und kaufe ihn immer wieder. Sicher, es gibt viele komplexere Islay Single Malt Whiskys, aber das Preis-Leistungsverhältnis stimmt und lecker ist er auch noch. Soll ich jetzt von Beeren- und Zitrusaromen und dem Abgang schwafeln? Besser nicht, es ist definitiv ein nicht sehr alter Whisky, aber das macht auch nichts. Ich kann ihn nur empfehlen, einfach mal probieren.

Bei The Ileach wird behauptet, dass es sich wohl um einen Lagavulin handelt. Verkostet man beide Whiskys abwechselnd, müsste dies richtig sein. Allerdings könnte es sich meiner Meinung nach um einen jungen Lagavulin handeln. Das Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis ist auf jeden Fall beeindruckend.

Der mit Abstand schlechteste Whisky den ich kenne.
Sowohl olfaktorisch als auch geschmacklich hat er höchstens die Qualität schlechter Medizin, nur das man von diesem Getränk am nächsten morgen noch einen Schädel hat.
Ein was gutes möchte ich aber doch finden: in meiner Werkstatt ist das jetzt die schönste Flasche Pinselreiniger die ich habe. Und dazu ist er gut genug.

Mehr als nur Rauch. Im Gegensatz zu den Finlaggan hat der Ileach deutlich mehr als nur rauch zu bieten. Angenehme süße, kein alkoholisches brennen. Man merkt etwas metallische Bitterkeit, aber auch bittere Eiche, ist also wohl nicht nur Jungspund. Das leere Glas riecht ordentlich, angenehm nach altem Eichenschrank. Für 20-22 Euro ein wirklich guter Whisky.
