Blended Malt Whisky
Unter einem Blended Malt Whisky versteht man einen Verschnitt bzw. ein Cuvée verschiedener Single Malt Whiskys. Diese eigene Whisky-Kategorie ist besonders in Schottland mit dem Blended Malt Scotch Whisky weit verbreitet. Früher bezeichnete man diese Whiskysorte auch Pure Malt oder Vatted Malt. Durch die Vermählung verschiedener Single Malts werden neue spannende Aromenprofile kreiert. Der Single Malt gilt unter Whiskyliebhabern als die Königsklasse der Whiskys, da man ihnen die größte aromatische Tiefe zuschreibt. So wird beim Blenden mehrerer Single Malts dem Malt Blend kein Grain Whisky hinzugefügt. Dies unterscheidet den Blended Malt vom Blended Whisky oder Blended Scotch Whisky. Durch die Verwendung des Wortes “Blend” werden Blended Malt Whiskys oft mit klassischen Blended Whiskys verwechselt. Achte daher auf die genaue Bezeichnung. Wenn sich das Wort “Malt” mit in der Beschreibung findet, etwas “Malt Blend” oder “Blended Malt”, handelt es sich um einen reinen Malt Whisky. Die Aromenfülle aus dem Malt Whisky bleibt somit erhalten.
