Alter Scotch Whisky
Whisky bzw. Whiskey muss bis zu seiner Reife in Holzfässern reifen. Die Zeit im Fass sorgt für die Farbe und die Aromentiefe des Whiskys. Je länger ein Whisky im Fass reift, desto mehr Farbe und Aromen kann das Fass an den Whisky abgeben. Das führt dazu, dass ältere Whiskys dazu tendieren einen dunkleren Farbton, als junge Whiskys anzunehmen. Natürlich kommt es hierbei auf das Fass an. Ein First Fill (erstbefülltes Fass) gibt schneller Farbe ab, als ein Refill (wiederbefülltes Fass). Unstrittig ist jedoch, dass mit dem Alter der Whisky an Aromentiefe, Komplexität und Viskosität zunimmt. Die zunehmende Verknappung von alten Whiskys hat zu einer stetigen Preissteigerung geführt. Das führt dazu, dass altgereifte Whiskys, besonders Single Malts, sich auch als Wertanlage und Investment lohnen können. Ob und wie stark der Wert eines Sammler-Whiskys steigt, hängt natürlich nicht allein vom Alter ab. Doch das Alter hat sich als ein wichtiges Kriterium bei der Wertanlage herauskristallisiert.
