Glendullan

Where Glendullan is on it ...

... is also Glendullan in it. But that can mean something different depending on the year the malt comes from. A Glendullan from 1972 or earlier comes from the old, established in 1897 Glendullan distillery. The was supplemented in 1972 by another, more modern distillery on the same site. So to speak "Glendullan 2". The malt between 1972 and 1985 is a mixture of the distillates of these two Glendullans. In 1985, production was stopped in the old Glendullan distillery. The plants and buildings today serve as a workshop. And the malt comes since 1985 solely from the pot stills of the new Glendullan distillery. Which does not detract from its excellent quality.

A little history

Glendullan was founded in 1897 as the seventh distillery in the town of Dufftown. Direct neighbors were and are Glenfiddich and Balvenie.
In 1919, owner William Williams & Sons merged with Macdonald Greenlees to form Macdonald Greenlees & Williams Distillers.
In 1926, Glendullan was acquired by Distillers Company Ltd. (DCL) and passed on to the Scottish Malt Distillers (SMD) in 1930.
From 1940 and 1947 the distillery was closed.
In 1962 Glendullan was extensively renovated. Directly next to the old distillery was built on the site 1970/71 a new building with six stills. From 1972, both plants produced in parallel, in 1985, the old Glendullan distillery was closed.

What do I actually have in the glass?

The Glendullan has a lush fruity character and a long, long, long finish ... A nice digestif.

3 reasons to love Glendullan

1) Because Glendullan was and is always good, whether old or new.
2) Because the distillery is unfairly in the shadow of famous neighbors.
3) Because Dufftown became Glendullan's "whiskey capital".
