On Christmas Eve in 1980, this nearly 34-year-old single malt was distilled in the Scottish Speyside near Glenfarclas and filled into two former port wine barrels.
After more than 33 years, these barrels were married and filled to just 700 bottles.
Bottled in the now legendary Glenfarcla's Christmas Port Pipe Edition, this is a breathtaking fruity-sweet single malt whiskey with the typical Glenfarclas note, balanced and very harmonious - lots of port wine, lots of fruit and herbal notes.

Wie schon die Ausgabe von 2013 eine absolute Enttäuschung. Der Port ist nach der langen Reifezeit nahezu verblasst. Der Geschmack ist allenfalls noch mit viel Phantasie als fruchtig zu verorten - Holz ist die wohl er bestimmende Note. Der Charakter des Hauses Glenfarclas ist nicht nur in den Hintergrund getreten - er ist schlichtweg nicht mehr da.

Die lange Reifezeit im Fass hat den malzig-süßen Ursprungscharakter des Glenfarclas deutlich verdrängt. Hier ist meines Erachtens eine zu lange Phase der additiven Fassreife zum Zuge gekommen, die es nicht schafft, den fruchtigen Charakter des Portweins mit dem Whisky zu einem Gesamtkunstwerk zu vermählen.
