Portrait: What makes the Ballechin 19 year old Madeira Casks special.

Producing whisky in its most original form - that's what Edradour has among Scotch fans made a legend years ago. As one of the few distilleries in Scotland, until 2018 it produced its single malt exclusively in the old farm buildings, sometimes using equipment that was more than 100 years old. And these are rarely used in whisky making anymore. The latter has not changed even after the completed expansion to include Edradour II.

The Highland distillery is now consolidating its favorite status with six new Edradour and Ballechin bottlings in September 2023 - all from liqueur wine and wine barrels.

Under the Ballechin brand, “Sotland's Little Gem” bottles their peatiest single malts, distilled from malt with at least 50ppm phenol content (responsible for the smoky note) . The Ballechin 19 year old Madeira Casks matured exclusively in one type of cask: Puncheons pre-filled with Madeira give it spice and sweetness.
