Douglas Laing & Co. was founded in 1950 as a blending company.
The core business is still old-fashioned blends - the main markets for Douglas Laing & Co. are Latin America and Asia.
Since this business has been declining since the mid-90s, it has been decided to fill the best malts from its own stock as a single malt.
This resulted in the high quality "The Old Malt Cask" series as well as the "McGibbon's Provenance" series.

Caol Ila "The Old Malt Cask"
Caol Ila is considered an insider tip, compared to other Islay whiskeys it is light - but it has an intense peat taste.
Most of the production goes in blends like Johnnie Walker, so that the bottlings as single malt are relatively small.
Aroma: peat, smoke and fruity notes through sherry barrel finishing
Taste: peppery, smoky and full of peat
Departure: again peppery and peaty, followed by sherry and fruits
