At the end of 2019, the Bowmore distillery on the Scottish Hebridean island of Islay announced a cooperation with the English luxury car manufacturer Aston Martin.
The first joint project was a 1964 Black Bowmore DB5 - this was followed by three more bottlings for the travel retail market.
With this bottling, Bowmore presents the next big hit!
Bowmore's Master Blender Ron Welsh and Aston Martin's Vice President and Chief Creative Officer Marek Reichman looked at the "golden ratio".
The golden section deals with the ratio of proportions, artists and designers use this ratio, which can often be found in nature, for their work.
Marek Reichman explains: "Every design detail of an Aston Martin is defined by its proportions. Our goal is always the optimum - the golden ratio. It is this force that guides us in creating absolute beauty, and in order to achieve that we have to we combine our skills, our passion and our experience. The meeting with Ron opens up new perspectives, it is very inspiring and enriching. This wonderfully balanced whisky is a perfect expression of our harmonious collaboration."
So a Bowmore single malt whisky in the golden ratio.
Master Blender Ron Welsh used this golden ratio when marrying this 21-year-old single malt.
Exactly 61.8% twenty-one-year-old Bowmore was used for this bottling, which matured in former Pedro Ximénez sherry barrels and former Oloroso sherry barrels.
The remaining 38.2% are older single malts, including a Bowmore single malt whisky that is over 35 years old.
Ron Welsh says: "Inspired by Marek and his team, we applied the golden ratio to this whisky for the first time in order to bring in the aromas of each element in the best possible way and to select the optimal casks so that the character of the whisky is shaped according to our ideas What at first seems completely opposite is in fact balanced and perfect in its proportions. The collaboration with Marek has opened up new perspectives for whisky production. This whisky celebrates the connection of our knowledge and experience, our shared passions, values and Ideas. "
Nose: at the beginning sweet, nutty aromas - noticeably Manuka honey and fresh maple syrup, then soft pralines and old leather follow - followed by tobacco leaves, licorice root and spicy aromas of heather and thyme
Taste: now clearly the sherry, plus intense peat smoke and dark chocolate - then becoming more spicy with notes of black pepper and roasted coffee - above all caramel, vanilla and ripe cherries, a little papaya
Finish: long, warm finish with a slight sweetness, notes of spicy oak and chestnuts - some coconut
