Founded in 1898, Benromach only produced its own bottlings in its early days.
Benromach was later owned by United Distillers for a long time, they brought only two bottlings on the market - and closed the distillery on March 24, 1983
In 1993, Gordon & MacPhail bought the run-down distillery and renovated it for five long years. New stills were specially designed and manufactured, a new mash tun was purchased and the wash back was refurbished.
In 1998 - 100 years after its founding - they finally started production.
The opening was by Prince Charles himself!
The spring water for their whiskeys comes from Benromach from the nearby "Romach Hills".
This malt comes from the stocks that Gordon & MacPhail bought with the purchase.
The 21-year-old matured in selected sherry casks.
A wonderfully fruity, full-bodied malt with a wonderfully warm finish.
