Tamdhu

Back to the Future. Forward to the past.

When Tamdhu was founded in 1897, it was considered one of Scotland's most advanced distilleries. From redesigned kilns that reduced heat loss to waste separation and efficient logistics with its own distillery station - Tamdhu set standards in an era of technological advances.
However, in the 20th and 21st centuries, the future of the distillery often did not look so bright. Tamdhu was shut down several times and was finally mothballed in 2009.
Recently, however, the entrepreneurial "can-dhu" spirit of the early years has again been intensely evoked, and not just on the beautifully designed website. The new owner, Ian Mcleod Distillers, resumed production in 2012, reopened the five old warehouses to store the single malt on its premises, and relied heavily on sherry casks for the new standard bottlings. A barrel policy from which many other distilleries have recently lapsed due to high costs. With Tamdhu, however, one has great plans to start the dawn of the Wilhelminian era into a brilliant future. We like to initiate this.

A little history

Built in 1897 by the Tamdhu Distillery Company, which was established for this purpose, the distillery was taken over by the Highland Distillers two years later. From 1927 Tamdhu was then shut down for 20 years. It was not until 1947 that the distillery produced again.
In 1972, the number of copper stills increased from two to four, in 1975 to six.
After the Highland Distillers were bought by the Edrington Group, 1976 came with the 8-year-old Tamdhu for the first time a single malt bottling of the distillery out.

In 2010, Tamdhu was closed and mothballed. A year later, the independent bottler Ian Macleod Distillers acquired the distillery and resumed production in 2012.

What do I actually have in the glass?

Tamdhu is a soft, fragrant malt whose original bottlings are more recent in sherry keg maturity - including flavors of toffee, almonds and ripe fruit.

3 reasons to love Tamdhu

1) Because time travel is fun.
2) Because the Malt understands not only with sherry casks perfectly.
3) Because "TAM-DHU" sounds like the rhythm of heavy drums.

The one drama for the lonely island

The 25-year-old from Hunter Laing's "Old Malt Cask" series is a large, fine malt far from superficial effects. Honest enjoyment in powerful cask strength.
