Big Peat celebrates its birthday: Douglas Laing & Co. releases Big Peat 10 Y.O. Limited edition

The independent Scottish bottler Douglas Laing & Co is celebrating a very special anniversary. The popular Islay fisherman Big Peat is 10 years old. On this occasion, the Scottish family company is publishing a 10-year special edition of the popular Islay Malts, limited to 5100 bottles.

Inspired by an old photo album, the label shows a collection of emblems, stamps and hand-drawn illustrations in honor of Big Peat's home, Islay. A high-quality booklet accompanies every bottle and tells the legend of Big Peat and his whiskey adventures. This blend of 10-year-old Islay single malts was bottled without coloring and not cold filtered in Douglas Laing style. With its 46% volume, the 10-year-old whiskey is packed with sooty, smoky and leathery charm.

Fred Laing, chairman of Douglas Laing and best friend of Big Peat, said:

"In 2009 I came up with a lively Ileach fisherman who would later become Big Peat. A brand that had undreamed of success and which was gradually supplemented by Scallywag, Timorous Beastie, Rock Oyster, The Epicurean and The Gauldrons, and finally to that what we call our "Remarkable Regional Malts" so humble. The ultimate distillation of the Scottish malt whiskey regions. I am pleased that Big Peat continues to grow and that it has developed a loyal fan base around the world - this special bottling is a fair tribute to him ! "

Tasting notes: Nose: peat smoke, damp foliage together with a peppery warmth.

Palate: smoked barley, ash and strong maritime notes that are played around by a leathery sweet.

Finish: long with fine bacon, tobacco, roasted marshmallows and charred wood.
